About Us
Our Story
Our story was born from a place of quiet pain and a desperate search for understanding.
In 2018, our founder, Mr. Kelvin Opiepie, walked through one of the darkest seasons of his life depression. But what hurt even more than the struggle itself was the stigma he met along the way. At a time when he needed support, he was met with silence, judgment, and misconceptions. He realized something heartbreaking: people are suffering, not only because of their mental health challenges, but because of the shame society places on them.
In his healing journey, something shifted. Out of the darkness came a promise. A promise that no one else should ever feel as alone as he did. A promise that stigma would no longer have the final say.
A promise that people would be met with understanding, not judgment.
From that promise, the LEAD Community Foundation was birthed, a place built from lived experience and deep compassion.
A place where conversations are safe, emotions are valid, and healing is possible. A place where people are seen, heard, and supported.
Today, LEAD is more than an organization; it is a community woven together by empathy, knowledge, and hope. We exist to challenge stigma, to educate hearts and minds, and to offer support to anyone navigating their mental health journey because no one should ever have to walk alone.
Through Advocacy, Education, and Mental Health Support, we are rewriting the narrative around mental health and opening doors for those who feel unseen.
Our story is one of pain transformed into purpose.
And together, we can lead the way to a world where healing is possible, because people are understood not judged.
Who we are
LEAD Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, education, and support. We create safe spaces, empower young people with knowledge, and provide culturally relevant mental health resources to individuals and communities.
Our work is driven by empathy, evidence-based education, and a commitment to reducing stigma. We believe that everyone deserves access to mental health support, guidance, and hope.
Our Vision
The vision of LEAD is to promote mental health literacy among our communities through Advocacy, Education and Mental Health Support.
Our Mission
We empower individuals, especially students with the tools to care for their mental well-being, make informed decisions, and access appropriate resources during times of distress.
Who We Help
At LEAD Community Foundation, we support individuals from all walks of life — regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, or background.
Our mission begins in the rural communities where help is often hardest to find and extends to urban areas where stigma and silence still prevail. Whether someone is quietly struggling or openly seeking support, we are here to ensure they are seen, heard, and helped.
We believe that everyone deserves access to mental health care, and we are committed to making that a reality — one person, one community, one step at a time.
